Low happiness index and high rates of suicides and work hazards illustrate the bleak reality of South Korean workplace. Time has already come to gather our strengths and collaborate to over come the vicious circle of the spread of pains and victims becoming perpetrators.
In June 2019, ILO announced the Violence and Harassment Convention (No. 190) that came in effect from 25 June 2021. According to the treaty, the member states are obliged to respect, promote and realize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment. The convention applies to all sectors, all workers and other persons in the world of work.
South Korea legally prohibits workplace bullying(including sexual harassment) by the Labor Standard Act 2021. Demands for improvement measures still remain in regards to the legal definition, judgement criteria, case investigation strategies, preventive education and measures, the scope of legal application, improvement in the recognition and awareness, training of professionals, and many other theoretical and practical issues.
